"Charlie joined Elite Performance (EP) in 2004, shortly after receiving his BA in Physical Education/Sports Management concentration from Ohio Wesleyan University.  While at OWU, Charlie was a four-year varsity letter winner for the men’s basketball team, earning an all-conference award his senior year.

Since joining EP in 2004, Charlie has trained numerous amateur, collegiate, and professional athletes in all sports.  He has been involved with the development and implementation of the strength and conditioning program for Otterbein College’s football team.  Charlie also developed and implemented the strength and conditioning program for Westerville South’s boys basketball team, Westerville North’s boys and girls swimming and diving teams, and the speed/agility program for Thomas Worthington’s baseball team.  He is currently working with area athletic directors to set up their respective school’s strength and conditioning programs.  Along with working with the aforementioned programs, Charlie trains over 400 local high school, collegiate, and professional athletes a year on an individual basis.

In 2006, Charlie finished his Master of Science degree from California University of Pennsylvania in Exercise Science and Health Promotion: Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention track.  He also earned his Performance Enhancement Specialist certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine in 2006.  In the same year, Charlie, along with Dayne Conley, published an article on dynamic and static stretching. The article won “second best article of the year” in “Clinical Outlet Newsletter.”

In 2007, Charlie fulfilled one of his goals by purchasing the company from Dayne Conley and becoming owner of Elite Performance.  Charlie now looks forward to growing EP and to continue in the footsteps of Dayne by “Helping athletes reach their peak potential.”

"Dayner" founded Elite Performance in the winter of 2001 with one collegiate soccer client. As his reputation of training excellence spread, Dayne grew the number of athletes he trained to over 300.

His past experiences include an internship with the Cleveland Indians & working as a rehabilitation consultant for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Dayne has also worked as an adjunct faculty member at Otterbein College. Additionally, he has trained numerous area high school & collegiate teams in a variety of sports.

Outside of his duties with Elite Performance, Dayne is the owner of Conley Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine in Westerville. He is also the co-founder of Same Day Sports Medicine, a unique rehabilitation opportunity for injured athletes. Dayne also gives many lectures throughout Ohio on functional training and rehab to hundreds of trainers and therapists.

Andy Busch, NASM-CPTAndy Busch, NASM-CPT
Certified Personal Trainer

Andrew Busch joined Elite Performance in 2003 as an intern with Dayne. In 2004, he became a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and joined the EP staff. In the fall of 2004, the San Francisco Giants signed Andy to a free-agent contract. From 2004-2006 he was with the Giant’s organization making his way to the AA team in Connecticut. Finishing his career in 2006, Andy has rejoined the EP staff.

Andy has a BA in Physical Education from Ohio Wesleyan University. While at OWU, he was a three-year varsity letter winner on the baseball team (a one-year varsity letter winner at Eastern Michigan University). Andy has extensive knowledge on protecting baseball players from throwing injuries and developing strength and stamina in the throwing arm. Along with Elite Performance, he has created a program to increase velocity for pitchers while preventing injuries at the same time. Andy and EP will be implementing this program to its high school and youth pitchers as well as area high school and club baseball teams.

Tami McCandlish-SmithTami McCandlish-Smith, CPT
Certified Personal Trainer

Tami McCandlish-Smith is the most recent addition to the EP staff.  Tami holds a personal fitness trainer certification through the American Fitness Professionals Association and is a former National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer.  Her fitness background also includes experience in exercise prescription, core and neuromuscular stabilization concepts, and a variety of aerobic fields such as kickboxing and water-running.

Tami is dedicated to serving each client with enthusiasm and attention.  Throughout her fitness career, Tami has trained children, adults, recreational exercisers, and athletes in one-on-one and group settings.  Her focus is weight management and developing functional programs that are tailored to meet each client’s individual goals and needs.

In addition to Tami’s fitness background, she holds a B.A. in English and Journalism from Ohio Wesleyan University, where she was recruited to play basketball.  She is the author of Flying Grounded: My Spiritual Triumph Over Female Bullying and runs a Central Ohio nonprofit called The Triumph Organization, which is dedicated to dealing with relational aggression among girls and women.

Sara Hotchkiss, NASM-CPTSara Hotchkiss, NASM-CPT
Certified Personal Trainer

Sara is currently a senior at The Ohio State University working towards her BS in Health and Wellness (March 2007). She joined the Elite Performance staff in May 2007. She is also applying to Physical Therapy graduate programs, with plans to attain a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2011.

Along with working for Elite Performance, Sara is a student assistant at Dodd Rehabilitation Hospital with The Ohio State University Medical Center. At Dodd she works one-on-one with patients who have sustained brain and spinal cord injuries. She has also done volunteer work at HealthSouth Physical Therapy, Conley Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, and Burkam Rehabilitation. Since joining the Elite Performance staff, Sara has worked with athletes of all ages in many different sports. Sara’s sports experience includes being a 10-time letter winner in high school.

Drew Kaszubski, NASM-CPTDrew Kaszubski, NASM-CPT
Certified Personal Trainer

Drew joined the EP staff in 2004 when he became a Certified Personal Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. He graduated with a BA in Physical Education/Sports Science concentration from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2005 where he was a four-year player on the nationally ranked men’s soccer team. From 2005 to 2006, Drew coached both boys and girl’s soccer teams for Worthington United Soccer Club. Drew is currently in Japan where is teaching and coaching for the Time Life English School. He will return in October/November 2007.

Drew aspires to help individuals set, reach and exceed goals. By establishing strong reports, increasing functionality, decreasing likelihood of injuries, educating for overall wellness, Drew assists individuals to push themselves to their limits. He stands by the philosophy that in order to achieve maximum potential, one must incorporate stabilization, strength, and power training.

Scott Mendenhall, ATCScott Mendenhall, ATC
Certified Athletic Trainer

Scott Mendenhall joined the Elite Performance staff in 2003. He has helped Dayne and Charlie part-time since then. He has experience training athletes in baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, football, swimming, lacrosse, volleyball, wrestling, and track. Scott is also in charge of our off-site baseball speed and agility clinics where he travels to area high schools to work with their teams on baseball-specific speed and agility drills and techniques.

Scott attended James Madison University and received a degree in Health Sciences. He currently works full-time at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s outpatient physical therapy clinic in Westerville where he assists in the rehabilitation and the return to sport of student-athletes as well as weekend warriors. Scott is a Nationally Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer in the state of Ohio and has over six years of work experience in the field. With his experience as an athletic trainer, Scott provides a wealth of knowledge on rehabilitation and injury prevention to every athlete he works with at Elite Performance.
